Just a shorter update today. I haven't had time to do write the post on publishing with Affinity yet but I haven't forgotten. In the mean time, I just wanted to share a few interesting things to cast your eyes upon.
William Eggleston: All That Goes Unnoticed
The Photographers' Gallery, London
A must-see exhibition of work from William Eggleston, celebrating the 50th anniversary of his Guide.
I have a strange relationship with William Eggleston's work. The guide is a book I return to a lot, but it's also probably the book I "get" the least. I guess that must be a good thing?
I think it's partly because it was one of the first important works of colour photography, so bearing that in mind it, starts to make more sense. It also due to the fact that it is of more 'mundane' moments (although not always), none of the 'decisive moments' we all look for.
The latter point has been a huge influence to photographers, you can see it everywhere on Instagram. Another cool William Eggleston fact is how so many album covers feature his photos. I was a big fan of Jimmy Eat World at uni, little did I know the cover of 'Bleed American' was by William Eggleston, therefore was the first photo I owned from a photographer I would later be a fan of.
This exhibition features some work form the guide, but it's a rare treat to see them as dye transfer prints, which really makes the colours and images pop off the walls, with more of a "real" feel than just seeing something printed. I'm not sure if I'm making any sense so perhaps you should go an see it and then explain it better in the comments below.
I also bought the book which I've been through a couple of times, and I'm sure that, like the Guide, it will be one I return to many more times.
The exhibition is open now until Sun 21st Feb 2027.
Edward Thompson: The Photographer's Grimoire
A Kickstarter to recommend to you! Ed is a great photographer and good guy. I found his videos on publishing particularly helpful when working on my first zine (in fact I linked to his videos in earlier blog posts). Below is a link to his upcoming book, so check it out and back the project! I'm sure it, like Ed himself, will be a very different handbook to the usual photography handbooks out there.

Gus Powell
You're probably aware of the YouTube "Paulie B", especially for his street interview series "Walkie talkie". A few weeks ago he released an interview with Gus Powell, one of the great New York street photographers. It's a brilliant interview, and I don't want to give too much away, so just go and watch it. It's definitely in the top 5 of Paulie B's interviews.
Unfortunately, I can't seem to get hold of any of his books, all sold out or too expensive, but will keep an eye out!
Elliott Gunn
Similarly to Paulie B above, Josh Edgoose interviewed Elliott Gunn on the Framelines channel. We are definitely a community in the London street scene and it's great to see Elliott talk about his passion for London. The only problem I have with this video is the FOMO it gives me for not being able to get out and shoot as often as I used to. I really need to find a street photographer who speaks about the challenge of balancing life with street.
Martin Parr
Want to spend a little time looking at Martin Parr's (RIP) work? Of course you do. I hadn't heard of this YouTube channel before but it came up in my feed, and I'm glad it did:
Lord Mayors Show
https://www.lordmayorsshow.london/
Saturday 14th November brings one of the best events to shoot in central London. Not as good as Notting Hill Carnival or Pride, but perhaps one of the next best. Lots going on and lots to see, and big enough that the photographers aren't all falling over each other (a problem at some events, especially the clowns service.
From the website: The Lord Mayor’s Show is the oldest, longest, best loved and least-rehearsed civic procession in the world. The 2026 Show will set off from Mansion House and fill most of the City of London on Saturday 14 November at 11am. The 698th Lord Mayor of London will be Alderman Bronek Masojada, of the Billingsgate ward. He will take office in the Silent Ceremony on November 13th, then on the next day the Lord Mayor’s Procession will convey him to Westminster to swear loyalty to the crown.
698th Lord Mayor... that's even more than Chelsea has had football managers.
I wrote a blog post about it last year but below are some photos from the previous two years, one of which featured in an exhibition.
Still in street: Autumn exhibition in 2025
It starts at 11am but you will want to get there early, I'm going to aim for around 9am, to get all the photos of the set up before things start rolling. Maybe see you there!
